Guitar Lessons
The guitar is a fun and portable instrument to learn to play. Students learn to read the treble clef notes, note values, chords, and strumming patterns. Students play and have fun practicing to very innovative music. They are also encouraged to learn their favorite songs. Once songs have been mastered students are given the opportunity to participate in a jam session. Students are taught blues scale improvisation and encouraged to be creative. Round Rock Music Academy offers an unequivocal guitar music program designed specifically to advance the student into becoming an accomplished musician. We meet the needs of each budding musicianʼs desire and goals. Practice is enjoyable because students learn their favorite songs.
Procuring a guitar
There are several options for obtaining a guitar. Guitars come in three different sizes. The half size guitar, the three-quarter size guitar, and the full size guitar. You can also choose from an acoustic guitar or an electric guitar. Acoustic guitars come with either nylon strings or steel strings. Nylon string guitars are considered to be classical guitars.
Both types of guitars are excellent and suitable for many styles of playing. Each guitar has itʼs own distinct feel and sound. The choice is personal.
Electric guitars are fun and easier to play than an acoustic guitar because of the action (the string distance from the neck of the guitar). They require an amplifier and a guitar chord for plugging into the amp. There are several “starter” guitar packages that range in price and size and colors from $250.00 and up.
When purchasing a guitar please invest in a sturdy case for protection.
Buying a new instrument is a critical step for the novice guitarist. A basic knowledge of the instrument and an assessment of your musical goals will help you make a wise purchase, a purchase you can enjoy for many years. However, walking into a shop without a basic understanding of the instrument and your goals is a formula for disappointment.
Most beginners are looking for an inexpensive guitar. Buyer beware: most guitars retailing for under $100 are disappointing junk. Don't throw your money away on an undersized toy, pay a little more and get a real guitar. Really cheap guitars have unacceptable compromises in design, materials and construction quality. Fortunately, there are many factory-made guitars costing from $250 to $300 that make fine beginning instruments. Also, when purchasing a new guitar consider purchasing from a reputable music store. When and if your guitar needs a repair you want to have a qualified store that honors warranty service and values you as a customer and will go the extra mile for you.
